Chinchón is to be found on a high plateau called "El Llano" about
30 miles south-east of Madrid, at more than 2000 feet above
sea-level, the village enjoys a continental climate of
hot summers and cold yet dry winters...

The river Jarama skirts the western edge of Chinchón.
The municipality is watered by the river Tajuña, which
joins with the River Tajo, one of the major rivers of the
Iberian peninsula, in the nearby Royal Site of Aranjuez.
Part of the rich valley of the Tajuña and the surrounding
moorlands are protected within Madrid's south-eastern
natural park. It is land of olives and vineyards,
smallholdings and empty hills.
One of the natural jewels of the valley is the
San Juan pool, a centre of refuge for many birds,
migratory or natives to the zone, including a
number in danger of extinction.
